Visit the impressive archaeological site of Coba, explore its ancient walking paths as you reach the whole region’s tallest Mayan temple. Delve into nature, living a day full of adventure while getting to know an authentic Mayan community that still guards its ancestors’ secrets.

Immerse yourself in ancient, crystal-clear “cenotes” and delight in the flavors of a traditional meal. Take your memories home with you in the form of photos of your activities, taken by photographers from the Mayan communities themselves!

Itinerary (Full-Day Tour)

  • 7:00-8:00 a.m. (Pick-up at the different hotels of the Riviera Mayan and Cancun).
  • 9:00-10:00 a.m. (approximate arrival to Coba or the Mayan Community of Pac Chen-depending on the logistics of the day).
  • Coba: (45 minutes of a guided visit and 1 hour, 15 minutes of free time in the archaeological site).
  • 4:30-5:30 p.m. Arrival (approximate) to hotels in the Riviera Maya and Cancun, based on their locations.

Visit the main temples of this archaeological site. Explore the ancient walking paths (known as “Sac Be” in Mayan) that will lead you to the great temple of Nohoch Mul, the tallest in the area, from whose summit you can enjoy a most unique view of the jungle. Inside the site, you will find optional bicycles and tricycles for rent (for an additional cost) to make the trek easier. Mayan Encounter (3 hours in the community).

You’ll have the chance to see how the Mayan culture endures today and you can experience, together with the inhabitants of our host community, an extraordinary expedition into the tropical forest.

Pac Chen Community (except Saturday)

  • Jungle Trek: learn about the area’s wildlife.
  • Mayan Ceremony: delve deep into our natural wonders and participate in an authentic blessing ceremony with the aromas of copal incense, celebrated by a Mayan shaman from the community.
  • Cenote Rappel and Swim: descend into the amazing Jaguar Cenote and refresh yourself in its crystalline waters.
  • Two Ziplines: fly high above the Caiman Cenote and the Mojarras Lagoon while you admire the lush vegetation.
  • Hanging Bridge: conquer your fears as you cross an imposing cenote on an astounding hanging bridge.
  • Canoes and Kayaks: navigate on a lagoon of immense tranquility and beauty.
  • Traditional Food: Savor the flavors of a delicious traditional regional meal, including “chayitas” and fresh flavored water drinks.

Tres Reyes Community (Saturday only)

  • Jungle Trek: learn about the area’s wildlife.
  • Mayan Ceremony: delve deep into our natural wonders and participate in an authentic blessing ceremony with the aromas of copal incense, celebrated by a Mayan shaman from the community.
  • Rappel: descend into the majestic Cenote de la Vida (Cenote of Life)
  • Cenote Swim: refresh yourself in the crystalline waters of the Chimuch Cenote.
  • Casa Maya: marvel as you get to know a traditional Mayan house.
  • Two Ziplines: fly high above the Chimuch Lagoon while you admire the lush vegetation and the imposing Cenote de la Vida.
  • Canoes and Kayaks: navigate on a lagoon of immense tranquility and beauty.
  • Traditional Food: Savor the flavors of a delicious traditional regional meal, including “chayitas” and fresh flavored water drinks.

Recommendations

Bring comfortable shoes, bathing suit, light clothing, rash guard shirts, a change of clothing, money in cash or credit card for purchase of souvenirs and photos. The use of sunblock is not permitted, even for those identified as being biodegradable.

Important

This expedition could represent overexertion for persons with disabilities and/or future mothers. Children may enjoy the expedition if they are aged 6 and over. Persons under the influence of alcohol or toxic substances are prohibited from participating.

For safety, hands must remain free at all times, and as such we do not allow the use of photographic cameras (including mobile devices like cellular phones and tablets) aboard the boats, unless they are “Action Cam”-style (Go Pro) cameras, provided they are affixed during the whole excursion to a chest or head mount. This tour could have certain restrictions due to weather or operational conditions.
